Reflecting on the First Year of College
I had a completely new mindset when I entered college. I was to stop complaining, stop discussing my emotions publicly on Tumblr or any social network, and to stop being negative.
I’ve grown tremendously as a person. I learned more about responsibilities since I didn’t have my parents around to tell me what to do. I’ve learn more about myself as a person, and I became much more sociable and confident in myself. Overall, I am a much happier person.
I learned to live life simply. I started to appreciate life more when I started to find happiness in the smallest of things. I tell myself to improve in something or be productive throughout the day so I can be constantly stimulated to work hard.
I also made a lot of great friends. I’ve joined an organization that became a home away from home, and now, I am an officer of that organization and everything has been exciting. The officers have been really emphasizing on being a family, and we’ve been hanging out almost every day to get to know each other better and to be reminded that we all have each other’s backs.
I learned to be more organized and to work in a group of people with different personalities. I learned to be a team player and to mesh with an eclectic set of people.
Also, I realized that my grades haven’t been the best, and that’s okay. I just need to keep telling myself to improve and things will get better. I haven’t made any C’s yet and I’m balancing out my life decently, so I can manage.
College has been great, and I know next year will be just as memorable or even more.

“This piece was primarily a trust exercise, in which she told viewers she would not move for six hours no matter what they did to her. She placed 72 objects one could use in pleasing or destructive ways, ranging from flowers and a feather boa to a knife and a loaded pistol, on a table near her and invited the viewers to use them on her however they wanted.
Initially, Abramović said, viewers were peaceful and timid, but it escalated to violence quickly. “The experience I learned was that … if you leave decision to the public, you can be killed… I felt really violated: they cut my clothes, stuck rose thorns in my stomach, one person aimed the gun at my head, and another took it away. It created an aggressive atmosphere. After exactly 6 hours, as planned, I stood up and started walking toward the public. Everyone ran away, escaping an actual confrontation.”
This piece revealed something terrible about humanity, similar to what Philip Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment or Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiment, both of which also proved how readily people will harm one another under unusual circumstances.”
This performance showed just how easy it is to dehumanize a person who doesn’t fight back, and is particularly powerful because it defies what we think we know about ourselves. I’m certain the no one reading this believes the people around him/her capable of doing such things to another human being, but this performance proves otherwise.”

Kirsty Mitchell’s late mother Maureen was an English teacher who spent her life inspiring generations of children with imaginative stories and plays. Following Maureen’s death from a brain tumour in 2008, Kirsty channelled her grief into her passion for photography.
She retreated behind the lens of her camera and created Wonderland, an ethereal fantasy world. The photographic series began as a small summer project but grew into an inspirational creative journey.
‘Real life became a difficult place to deal with, and I found myself retreating further into an alternative existence through the portal of my camera,’ said the artist. (read the rest here).

April 30, 1975: Fall of Saigon
On April 30, 1975, the National Liberation Front and the People’s Army of Vietnam, lead by General Văn Tiến Dũng, captured Saigon, the capital and largest city of South Vietnam after heavy artillery bombardment and eventual occupation by the North Vietnamese in key places. That afternoon, General Duong Van Minh, the new successor as President of the Republic of Vietnam, dissolved the South Vietnam government, bringing an end to the war. Minh hoped for a peaceful transfer of power.
“I believe firmly in reconciliation among Vietnamese to avoid unnecessary shedding of the blood of Vietnamese.” - Duong Van Minh

We are very similar and can relate to one another easily. We’ve developed a strong friendship before getting into a relationship.
